What is myImpact?

myImpact.org is an online platform for volunteers in national and community service programs. Our Twitter-based tool allows volunteers to record, share and track their impact.

We believe that ordinary citizens are doing extraordinary things to help solve local and national problems. myImpact.org seeks to be a resource for volunteers and service organizations by leveraging the power of new technology and social media.

We are currently in beta, which means we’re continuing to make changes, add enhancements to the site and develop new applications. Check back often!

Why use myImpact?

Record your impact: myImpact.org makes recording your impact easy and fun. Instead of filling out time sheets or journal entries, you can enter an impact measurement directly into your myImpact profile online. Connect your free myImpact account with Twitter and tweet your impact right from your cell phone, such as the number of hours you volunteered or meals you served.

Share with others: Why stop making a difference when your volunteer project ends? Use myImpact.org as a way to extend your service online through your social networks by sharing what you’re doing with your friends and inspiring them to get involved. Share your impact with others online by inviting people to view your journal or embedding a personalized RSS feed of your journal entries on your Web site or blog.

Track over time: See your impact grow through a timeline on your myImpact profile. It’s a great way to reflect on the work you’re doing, maintain an online record of your service experience and meet reporting requirements for your service program. Each entry is part of a larger story – a story of how one person, you, can make a difference.

Be sure to invite your friends to join, or search to see if they are already members. Browse the profiles of other users, maybe those in your neighborhood or those working on similar issues on the other side of the country. By joining our online community, you are building relationships with other people who are giving their time and talent to solve community and national problems. Who knows? Maybe this online activity will lead to even more offline action!

How does it work?

As a volunteer, you can begin by creating a free profile on myImpact.org and linking it to your Twitter account. Just go to the myImpact.org home page and click on register You’ll be ready to starting tracking your impact within minutes.

After a volunteer activity you can send a message through Twitter describing your impact. Each impact entry should contain an action, a metric, a quantity, and the hashtag, #myImpact. For example, you might tweet, "I volunteered 4 hours today #myImpact."

We will automatically capture and log that information to your myImpact profile. You can even include a photo using applications like TwitPic, TweetPhoto and Yfrog. Visit our Help page for more detailed information, including what activities and metrics the site can currently capture.

Not on Twitter? No problem. You can always log in directly to your profile on myImpact.org and create new entries or edit existing ones.

What's in store?
